Northwest Justice Project's Coordinated Legal Education Assistance and Referral Program (CLEAR) has new services available to Native American crime victims through the CLEAR-CV-Native American Program. An NJP attorney is available to provide advice, brief services and referrals in civil (non-criminal) legal matters stemming from the client's experience as a crime victim. Examples include divorce, custody, domestic violence, sexual assault, denial of health care services, evictions and economic security issues caused by assault, abuse, or fraud. The Olympic Area Agency on Aging (O3A) exists to help elderly individuals and persons with disabilities maintain their dignity, health and independence in their homes, through a comprehensive and coordinated system of home and community-based services.

This site provides legal education materials and tools that give you basic information on a number of legal problems, and in some cases, detailed instructions and forms to help you represent yourself in court. ATNI is a nonprofit organization representing 57 Northwest tribal governments from Oregon, Idaho, Washington, southeast Alaska, Northern California and Western Montana. ATNI is an organization whose foundation is composed of the people it is meant to serve — the Indian peoples.

Abstract: In 1989 the federally recognized tribes and the State of Washington developed and signed the Centennial Accord. Washington became the first state to establish a government-to-government relationship through this type of formal agreement. Coming after the highly contentious years following the US v Washington case (often called the Boldt decision) on Indian fishing rights, the Centennial Accord was “intended to build trust and confidence among the parties in the government-to-government relationship” …and…“improve the respectful relationship and services delivered to people by the parties” (2004). This case explores the history of the Centennial Accord, its impact, and the lessons about intergovernmental relationships.

Native life is many things … it’s the tribe, the community, the family, the environment, the history and, most of all, the land. It grows from many roots and has many interests, from art to education to current events to Native cooking.

And in today’s world, there are also thousands of Indian stereotypes, pretenders and wannabes. So many Internet “experts” on the Native world. So many people boasting about their great-great grandmother, the Cherokee princess.

But for those people who actually are Native … and for those non-Natives who actively seek to learn and understand … and for anyone who demands authenticity, honesty and expertise … there is one place to turn.

This is Indian Country, with the deepest of roots in Native culture and a vast expertise in Native issues and interests.

The American Indian Library Association (AILA) will provide a library school scholarship to a qualified American Indian individual in the amount of $4000 for the 2017-2018 academic school year.

ATALM is an international non-profit organization that maintains a network of support for indigenous programs, provides culturally relevant programming and services, encourages collaboration among tribal and non-tribal cultural institutions, and articulates contemporary issues related to developing and sustaining the cultural sovereignty of Native Nations.

The goal of the Native American Library Services Basic Grants Program is to support existing library operations and maintain core library services. Funding can include Supplies, materials, equipment, staff salaries, wages, and training. Grants are only available for a one year period.

The National Indian Law Library (NILL) is a law library devoted to American Indian law. It serves both the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) and the public. NILL serves the public by developing and making accessible a unique and valuable collection of Indian law resources and by providing direct research assistance and delivery of information.

ANA promotes self-sufficiency for Native Americans by providing discretionary grant funding for community based projects, and training and technical assistance to eligible tribes and native organizations.

Since 1971, the Native American Rights Fund (NARF) has provided legal assistance to Indian tribes, organizations, and individuals nationwide who may have otherwise gone without adequate representation. NARF has successfully asserted and defended the most important rights of Indians and tribes in hundreds of major cases, and has achieved significant results in such critical areas as tribal sovereignty, treaty rights, natural resource protection, and Indian education. NARF is a non-profit 501c(3) organization that focuses on applying existing laws and treaties to guarantee that national and state governments live up to their legal obligations.

NCAI has been protecting the right to vote for Native Americans since the day the organization was founded in 1944. Some of the first resolutions ever passed by NCAI supported voting rights for American Indians in New Mexico and Arizona.

The Tribal Court Clearinghouse is a comprehensive website established in June 1997 to serve as a resource for American Indian and Alaska Native Nations, American Indian and Alaska Native people, tribal justice systems, victims services providers, tribal service providers, and others involved in the improvement of justice in Indian country. It is one of the most comprehensive websites on tribal justice system issues, and includes a wealth of tribal, state, and federal resources. The Clearinghouse website contains extensive resources on tribal, state, and federal law along with extensive Indian country subject-matter resources, a training events calendar, and resources from all Tribal Law and Policy Institute webinars.
